I.        Definitions

Web Data:  Numerical information available on the World-Wide Web.   Data may be available on a web page or as a file readable by a spreadsheet, a graphing calculator, or a statistical/numerical analysis software package.

Applet:  A small, self-contained computer program that usually performs a task as part of larger software application. For example, most World Wide Web browsers are capable of using applets written in the Java programming language.

II.           Representation Standard (NCTM):

Instructional programs from prekindergarten through grade 12 should enable all students to÷

á        create and use representations to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas;

á        select, apply, and translate among mathematical representations to solve problems;

á        use representations to model and interpret physical, social, and  mathematical phenomena.

Grades 9-12: 3D Representations of Data

III.            Algebra Standard (NCTM):

Instructional programs from prekindergarten through grade 12 should enable all students to÷

¤   understand patterns, relations, and functions;

¤   represent and analyze mathematical situations and structures using algebraic symbols;

¤   use mathematical models to represent and understand quantitative relationships;

¤   analyze change in various contexts.
