Welcome to the website of the Curriculum and Instruction Program in the
Department of Instruction and Teacher Education. Within our Program, we offer
a Doctor of Education Degree (Ed.D.) in Curriculum and
Instruction with an emphasis in Curriculum Studies.
The Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction is a doctoral level degree program
designed for professional educators who desire high level preparation as
curriculum generalists and leaders. The degree program primarily focuses on the
critical understanding of curriculum theory and practice. Graduates display
interdisciplinary knowledge and, most importantly, epitomize the
generally-educated academic practioners who possesses integrity and intellectual
curiosity, demonstrates a concern for justice, is able to work collaboratively,
and acts in a professionally responsible manner. This interdisciplinary program
is designed for preparing leaders for leadership roles in university
professorships, district-level curriculum administration, and school-level
instructional leadership positions.
The full time faculty within the Curriculum and Instruction program are Dr.
Rhonda Jeffries (rjeffries@gwm.sc.edu
) and Dr. Susan Schramm-Pate (sschramm@gwm.sc.edu). Dr. Jeffries’ interests include critical ethnography
research, race and ethnicity, and performance theory. Dr. Schramm-Pate’s
interests include cultural studies, women’s studies, and integrated curriculum
development and implementations.

process for the Ed.D. occurs once a year.
