Weather

Weather is the condition of Earth’s atmosphere at a particular time and place. Weather is dictated by various conditions such as energy in the atmosphere, the transfer of thermal energy, wind, water in the atmosphere, and precipitation. Any variation in one or more of these factors will influence a change in the current weather condition.

Electromagnetic waves are the primary form of energy in the atmosphere. It is responsible for generating the greenhouse effect and infrared radiation.

The movement of thermal energy through the atmosphere exists in three forms: radiation, conduction, and convection. These waves move heat energy from the sun to the lowest level of the atmosphere or the troposphere.

Winds are caused by differences in air pressure, which are the result of unequal heating across the surface of the Earth.

Water vapor dictates the relative humidity of a location. Clouds are formed when water vapor in the air becomes liquid or ice.

Evaporated water from the atmosphere provides a source for precipitation. The common types of precipitation include rain, sleet, freezing rain, hail and snow.

Weather is a phenomenal topic, however many people are only interested in the accuracy of the weather report on television. I hope this portfolio stimulates your interest in this wonderful topic.
