Recommended: Reference manuals for the various software packages will be used along with handouts prepared by the instructor.
Class participation is an important aspect of this course; students are strongly encouraged to attend each class. Each project should be completed and submitted within the two weeks following the topic's coverage in class. No projects will be accepted after the last class which precedes the final exam.
Projects and the final examination will be graded using the traditional A-F scale. Graduate Students: The final course grade will be the weighted average of the four project grades (75%) and the final examination grade (25%). Undergraduate Students: The final course grade will be the grade on the final examination.
Each class will consist of a combination of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on applications. The instructor will introduce and demonstrate the subject of the lesson and, then, supervise students as they apply that subject matter at the computer. The amount of time devoted to each topic will vary.
A minimum of one computer for every two students will be required and a large screen monitor will be needed for demonstration purposes. Access to the Internet, laserdisc players and laserdisc programs, video cameras (still and motion), video capture cards, microphones, and audio capture hardware are essential to the course.
