Hillary Clinton.  Johnnie Cochran.  Emeril Lagasse.  Angela Bassett.  Destinyâs Child.  Most people immediately recognize these names because of the successes these individuals have achieved during their career:  Hillary Clinton in the political arena, Johnnie Cochran as a power attorney, Emeril Lagasse and his cooking shows, Angela Bassettâs many acting roles, and the Destinyâs Child popular tunes. Many youth look at such celebrities and see the fruits of their labor.  What they sometimes fail to comprehend is the hard work, dedication, and planning that comes before the success. some never stop to ask how these people chose their career. Was it something they always wanted to do?  Where did they go to school?  How much experience did they have before they got their big break?

It is important for students to understand all the processes involved in career planning. Generally, career advisors/mentors help students figure out what skills they need for their field of interest and what type of education/training is needed to acquire these skills. They administer tests to help students see what professions best match their personality. In addition, these individuals help students develop interpersonal skills needed for interviewing and group-oriented work settings. The career planning process also includes knowing how to sell yourself with an attractive resume, cover letter, and portfolio.

Although it is important to explore many different options and venues when choosing a career, it is important that students are not misguided or misled. There are tons of software, tests, books, and other resources available to help individuals with this process. It is my hope to expand this web site even further so that it may serve as yet another resource.
