Instructional Software
The instructional software that evaluated was SimCity 2000. SimCity 2000 can be used in a variety of ways.
SimCity can be used to teach students about city development, city management,
money management, time management and how technology plays a part in the
"urbanization" process.
A teacher could use this software to show how individuals have different needs and desires, how technology either hinders or improves "urbanization" and how city governments must balance various aspects of human relations and technology in order to build a thriving city.
SimCity has many strengths. This program is a great tool for teaching social studies students about how city governments work to overcome challenges by allowing them to work through difficult simulations. There are various uses for this program (city building, human relations, etc.). SimCity 2000 affords the teacher an opportunity to use it in various ways, e.g.: city building and problem solving, by not placing restrictions on the software.
SimCity has some weaknesses. This program did not have an adequate instruction manual.
Program "Help" is available, but it is not very helpful.
Recommendation: Very good.
