Internet Resources

The Modern Word

This web site is useful for English teachers and students to study authors and their works. It contains an abundance of information on authors from the modernist era to present. The home page has a daily muse and a search for authors. I like the daily muse because students can read these to learn about authors without being overwhelmed with the length. The search engine on the home page will be helpful because the teacher can instruct students to search for a certain author. This way students are more likely to stay on task. Links are provided for library resources that teachers and students may access for more information on authors and their works. I recommend this web site to teachers and students.

The Academy of American Poets

The Academy of American Poets is similar to the one above because it contains a search engine for the poets and poems. For the teacher who enjoys teaching with technology, this web site has an Online Poetry Classroom. Since some schools in Richland County have e-classrooms, this web site would be great for teaching poetry. I will definitely use this web site as a teacher. I also recommend this web site to teachers and students.

The Nobel Prize Internet Archive

I like this web site because it contains all Nobel Prizes awarded from 1901 to present in all categories. Teachers from different subject areas, other than English, can use this web site. Teachers and students can access Nobel Prizes awarded either by year, person, or category. Lesson plans are provided for some of the categories with audio and video suggestions for the classroom. Ideas for lessons are listed and other links are provided for research. The only problem that I found with this web site is that the page is filled with many graphics and banners. I highly recommend this web site to educators and students.

The Edgar Allan Poe Museum

The Edgar Allan Poe Museum will intrigue students with its graphics and the virtual tour of the museum. If students did not have an interest in Poe before they visit this site, they will after they do. Some of Poe's works are on this web site and this is useful for classroom instruction or for students to do individual work. Other links are provided for sites related with Poe and his works. I would have liked to see more of Poe's works on this web site and a link is provided for a lesson plan but it does not work. I still recommend this web site to engage students with Poe and his life.
