An Overview of the a Software Package Entitled ãScience, Tobacco, & Youä
Science, Tobacco, & You is a multidisciplinary, multimedia, science curriculum resource. The goal of Science, Tobacco, & You, is to encourage students to use science ask and questions to promote scientific literacy in the case of the issue with tobacco use and prevention. This software helps the students develop the skills to ask, find, and determine the answers to questions about tobacco, the harmful effects of it, and the long- term effects of it.
Through scientific analysis and multi-sensory experiences generated from the software, the students get to explore and learn about the harmful effects of tobacco on their bodies. They also learn strategies for handling peer pressure to use tobacco and they learn about the role that advertising plays in promoting tobacco addiction. The students also get to explore different body systems, how they are needed for survival, and what can happen to them from the use of tobacco.
The software starts off with an introduction about the program. Next, it ask you if youâve used the program before and lets you set and change your pass word to use every time you enter the program. Then, you get to choose and dress the person that youâre using to represent you throughout the time that you are using the program. You can use a scanned digital image of yourself or choose one of the given ones. After all of this is done, you can start your journey through the program. Throughout the program, there are many options and choices for what you want to explore or what you want to do. There is a lab book that you can use to take notes on the system. In parts of the program, you are asked questions and it encourages you to make up questions that go along with whatever section you covered at that point.
This software was given at a workshop through DHEC for 5th grade science teachers to help cover certain standards that need to be taught at the 5th grade level. I chose to use this software because it goes with my theme for my portfolio and everything that Iâm doing for my portfolio, I can take back to my classroom and use. Any educator that is trying to teach against the use of alcohol and drugs can use this in their classroom to help reinforce their teaching. To find out more information on the software, you can go to http://scienceu.fsu.edu/. From this site you should be able to get ordering information or contact information.
