Internet Resources
This website is an
amusement park of math and more -- especially designed for FUN, FUN, FUN! There
are math games, brain benders, jigsaw puzzles, and more. There are activities
for all ages 3 ö 100. This interactive site is sure to stimulate and keep children
excited about learning mathematics. I felt that this was a good site in that it
covered a lot of the NCTM standards and it was easy to navigate. I did feel
that the site was very colorful and busy which could be a distracter. Overall,
I thought the site exemplified its name well, cool math for kids. I shared this
site with some parents at my school and they said that their children enjoyed
it.
This website is excellent for students. If students have questions about math, they can log on and ask Dr. Math, who is on duty and ready to lend a hand. The site is divided by grade levels to better help children navigate to the grade level of their interest. There are weekly and monthly challenges and special interest topics to help children use higher levels of thinking skills. I liked the fact that they have a math archives and a section on frequently asked questions. One thing that I found that could be disturbing is that Dr. Math stated that because of the high number of questions received daily, they may not be able to answer all questions. While a students question may have already been asked and answered, if a student asked a question and it was never answered, they may not find the site effective.
This website includes hundreds of pages of Basic Math Skills. There is an interactive practice and an explanation of the math topic on every page. There are also several challenge games on every page. It is designed for grades K ö 8. Some of the math topics include Algebra, Decimals, Division, Estimation, Graphs, Mental Math, and much, much more.
