Observations
- Videocourse is effective
- Between 88% and 92% during each of three semester respond that they
a videotaped delivered course to a comparable traditionally delivered course.
- Teachers cite the flexibility of "attending" classes, not having to deal with
transportation/parking problems, and ability to "try-out" ideas while tape is stopped
as strengths.
- Teachers find algebra strand emphasizing algebra manipulatives (Lab Gear) to be
the strongest, most useful part of course.
- Grades 7-12 teachers need more exposure to probability and statistics
- Difficult with combinatorics/counting problems
- Misconceptions involving sampling and the nature of randomness
- Elementary/middle grades teachers more receptive to formulas defined
recursively compared to secondary teachers who prefer closed-form.
- Grades 7-12 teachers struggle with three dimensional representations and
transformational geometry.
