Communication in the Workplace
Communication skills in the workplace are essential for acquiring and keeping a job. Communication skills such as reading, writing, and speaking are taught and practiced in schools everyday. The ability to read and comprehend is essential for following instructions and completing assigned tasks. A personŐs writing skills must also be adequate for written contact and communication within the office and with people outside the office. Adequate language and speaking skills are also vital for good communication in the workplace. Talking on the telephone is the most abvious test of someoneŐs communication skills. These skills are practiced everyday either at school or on the job. An adequate understanding of these skills and abilities is vital to successful communication in the workplace.
Today's society is beginning to see the necessity of allowing student's to get out into the working world on a day-to-day basis to experience the importance of communication skills in the workplace. The School-To-Work Act is the most recent example of society's acknowledging today's teenagers and their ability to succeed in the workplace. The act has been put into place to give teenagers a chance to succeed at whatever they do. The act gives students an opportunity to gain experience in a field that interests them. Students who graduate and have been through the program will have an idea of where they are heading in life.
