Biography

Lucy K. Spence is an Assistant Professor of Language and Literacy. She hails from Arizona, where she taught elementary school in a Latino community for 15 years as an ESL teacher and Library Literacy Specialist. She completed her doctorate at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona in 2006. Her interests include exploring the intersections of culture and language. Lucy is currently developing an approach to assessing English learner writing based on Bakhtinian and literary theories. She teaches reading methods and assessment courses.
